Where is Vallejo, and why is it a gateway to the Napa Valley?
Vallejo sits in Solano County where Interstate 80 meets Interstate 780, State Route 29 and State Route 37, according to the city. Highway 29 runs north from Vallejo through American Canyon into the Napa Valley, which is why Vallejo is often the first stop on the way to wine country. Named after Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, the city was incorporated in 1867 and had 122,807 residents in 2023. It was also the first permanent seat of California's state government, in 1852.
