How an FBO booking works
FBO ground transportation is a specialist product and Chauffyr runs it as one. The booking is wired to the aircraft's tail number rather than a commercial flight number — the chauffeur sees FBO ramp status, estimated arrival, handler notes and the exact clearance window published by the FBO. Where airport authority permits, the car meets plane-side on the ramp; where it does not, the chauffeur stages in the FBO lobby. Signature Aviation chauffeur, Atlantic Aviation chauffeur, Jet Aviation ground transport and Million Air chauffeur describe the same booking shape — tail-number car service through one 24/7 US-based desk, worldwide.
Tail-number car service — how it works
A commercial airport transfer is wired to the flight number; a Chauffyr FBO booking is wired to the aircraft tail number. From submission the dispatch desk watches four signals: aircraft departure from origin, en-route progress, FBO ramp status at the destination, and handler clearance window. If the aircraft gains an hour, the chauffeur stages later — nothing to update. If it loses an hour, the chauffeur stages later still, off the clock. If the aircraft diverts to a secondary field, the desk re-dispatches to the alternate under the same upfront quote, no change fee. The guest's assistant never has to re-contact dispatch during the flight.
Plane-side meet vs FBO lobby
Plane-side meet is the premium FBO product — the chauffeur drives on the apron under FBO handler escort and the guest steps from the aircraft directly to the staged vehicle. It is available where the airport authority permits ramp access to ground-transport operators; most of Chauffyr's primary FBO network supports it (Signature, Atlantic, Jet Aviation, Million Air at major cities). Where airport authority does not permit ramp access, the chauffeur meets in the FBO lobby — thirty feet from the aircraft, inside the private terminal, no public interaction. Specify plane-side at booking so the desk coordinates the handler escort.
FBO coverage
Chauffyr serves private-aviation terminals at major business-aviation airports, including FBOs operated by Signature Aviation, Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Million Air, and independent operators at fields such as Teterboro, Van Nuys and Opa-Locka. See /fbo for the searchable directory of US FBO terminals, with each phone number labelled as the FBO's own line or the Chauffyr desk.
Vehicle sizing by aircraft class
Chauffyr sizes the ground vehicle to the aircraft class as a default. Light jets (Citation CJ, Phenom 300) run a Business Sedan for 1–3 guests. Midsize (Citation XLS, Hawker 900) run an Executive SUV for 4–6 guests. Super-midsize (Citation Longitude, Challenger 350) run SUV or Jet Sprinter Van depending on bag count. Heavy (Global 6000, Falcon 7X, GulfStream G650) run Jet Sprinter Van or Executive Sprinter depending on headcount. For every aircraft class, the chauffeur handles bag transfer from the aircraft hold to the vehicle under handler supervision.
Charter broker and family office accounts
Charter brokers can run Chauffyr ground arrangements under the broker's own account so the end-guest sees one consolidated invoice for air and ground. The desk books ground at the moment the broker confirms the flight and the broker's branding stays intact across the itinerary. Family offices with standing aircraft can save tail numbers and standing dispatch rules — SFO ↔ residence, HPN ↔ Westchester office, Teterboro ↔ Manhattan — so recurring moves are one-click.
Policies — FBO wait, clearance and bag handling
Chauffyr includes 15 minutes of complimentary wait at FBO and private-aviation pickups, counted from actual landing time; after that, extra wait is billed at the vehicle's hourly rate in 15-minute increments. For plane-side meets, the handler escort window is coordinated by the desk before dispatch so the chauffeur arrives inside the clearance window, not before (which the FBO ramp rules do not allow). Oversize bag handling (ski bags, hunting cases, musical instruments) is pre-planned at booking — the desk sizes the vehicle to the gear list, not just the headcount.
International FBOs and clearance quirks
FBO coverage outside the US is where private-aviation ground logistics quietly gets harder — clearance rules, ramp access and vehicle-standard expectations vary by jurisdiction. London Luton, Farnborough and TAG Farnborough all have their own ground-transport staging rules and Chauffyr books those slots at the FBO handler level before dispatch. Some fields require approved chauffeur credentials or fixed handler windows before ramp access. For each of these fields, Chauffyr’s desk works with the vetted local affiliate to confirm clearance and credentials twenty-four to forty-eight hours before the aircraft arrives, so the ground chauffeur is on an approved list and not held up at the ramp gate on the day.
